I was playing with Fedora Core 3 and noticed that the sleep light on my PowerBook was being used as a hard drive act. light, does anyone know if this is posible by any means through OSX?

Well, most of the low-level drivers in Mac OS X are open sourced as part of Darwin. So, I'd expect a determined individual would be able to figure it out.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. I for one would find that useful. Too bad I don't know crap about coding, and am learning *nix as I go...
