My PB failed to recognize the internal HD, even disk utility, when run off the install CD, will not recognize it. Is there a way to remove the HD and install it in an enclosure which would allow me to read the HD as an external drive? Even better, is there a firewire enclosure which would would with the migration assistant? Thanks in advance.

That should work with any 2.5" FW or USB enclosure. I upgrade my PB's HD and now use the old one for backups.

Though the PB failing to recognize the HD may mean that it has died, and then an enclosure won't help, either ...

You may also try starting your machine up in Target Disk mode by holding the "T" key on the keyboard.

You can then use a firewire cable to connect it to another machine and see if it comes up.

If it does you may also be able to run Disk Utility on it.
