Apple has refurbed 2G nanos available now.
Current selection: 2GB Silver - $119 (vs. 149 new) 4GB Silver, Pink, and Blue - $169 (vs. 199 new) 8GB Black - $209 (vs. 249 new) I've been eyeing an upgrade for my 1 GB nano for a while now. The 4GB model's right in the sweet spot for me, if I replace my nano with a new nano rather than a 5.5G refurb. I always thought $199 was a bit much for the 4GB model, and this brings them down just enough that I might think about one now. First gen nanos didn't drop, with the exception of the 1GB model, which dropped to a snack-size $79. |

Percentage-wise, they're right on par with current-generation refurb Macs. The only things you get bigger savings on are older Macs and iPods. It may not be a lot of money, but it's better than no savings, especially for students who miss having the education discount.

I was able to sell a 1st gen 1gig nano for $85 just last week. This is apropos of nothing, but I thought I'd share.

Someone I know had his first gen Mini with a one-hour battery go for $92 on eBay a few weeks ago.

On a related note, 2G Shuffles are now in the refurb store. Only silver is available now, of course, but they're only $59!

I wish I could use my iTS gift cards on iPods and accessories. I'd pick up a shuffle in a minute rather than spend $40 on music.

I know what you mean. I've never really understood the separation, myself. It almost seems like another case of Apple making an artificial market separation/distinction. Very lame.

30GB: $209 (vs. 249 new) 80GB: $299 (vs. 349 new) |

I'd pay $40 just to get a new product.

There's nothing wrong with refurbs... I would have no problem buying one.
