Amis,

I've got spinning beach ball on iTunes (hit 'burn disc' while a normal audio cd was already in), and Force Quit doesn't do anything. (Neither does the Eject button on the keyboard.)

I've given it ten minutes and still the same results.

Any idea how to get the disc out of the optical drive (or quit iTunes).

TIA.

A

iTunes has been locking up on me too lately. I've had to restart my computer each time to get it working again.

So I'm really of no help to you.

I don't suppose you have an iPod connected?

Kill the process in the Terminal and then restart with the applicable key held down (C?) to get the CD out.

Nothing connected, chucker.

This has happened twice before; both times I had to hard close (ie, hold the power button) my poor machine because the normal shutdown route got me no where. I'll try it now though.

iTunes is likely zombie'd, so killing is not an option.

That's odd. I typically have this when my iPod mini is acting up.

Does 'ps axww | grep iTunes' have iTunes in parentheses?

Normal shutdown failed; hard boot ordered up and served. I hate to do that.

chucker, now you know that whatever you 'wrote' before the parentheses part went straight over my head...

Thanks to all who chimed in.

Oh, that's alright. Pointless now.

I was asking you to type that part between the single quotes into a Terminal window. You'd normally get something like:

Code:
$ ps axww | grep iTunes 293 ?? S 0:00.16 /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunesHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunesHelper -psn_0_1441793 2434 ?? S 10:10.06 /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes -psn_0_13369345 4264 p1 R+ 0:00.01 grep iTunes
But if iTunes is a zombie process, it would be like:

Code:
$ ps axww | grep iTunes 293 ?? S 0:00.16 /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunesHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunesHelper -psn_0_1441793 2434 ?? S 10:10.06 (iTunes) 4264 p1 R+ 0:00.01 grep iTunes
Note those parentheses. Zombie means that the process doesn't react, and can't be killed nor resurrected. Like a zombie.
