Question:
Does anyone know any actual facts about Apple's partnerships with various chip manufacturers? A recent AI-linked article says Apple is working with Samsung to build A9 chips at Global Foundries in New York. Other rumors laid claim to Samsung building out a new facility called Global Foundries in New York. Every single rumor has Apple working with Samsung through Global Foundries as if Global Foundries was Samsung in disguise. Yet, everything I can find says Global Foundries is owned by an Abu Dhabi bazillionaire with no Samsung involvement. If Global Foundries (a former investment property of AMD) is independently owned, why would Apple not just skip the Samsung outright? When Samsung is involved, they usually have their bright, shiny logo up—as with the Austin, Texas plant—but there are no bright, shiny Samsung logos anywhere near the Global Foundries plant/website. What gives? Please don't speculate. If you know, help a feller out. If you don't, be a man/woman and say so! There's plenty of speculation going on in the AI/MacRumors/WorthlessNews world as it is. I'm genuinely curious, and yes I understand a lot of this stuff is Supertopsecret™ and no one knows but his Cookness. P.S. If you have knowledges, linkies would be a nice addition. That is, linkies that are not of the "rumor" flavor. - AppleNova is the best Mac-users forum on the internet. We are smart, educated, capable, and helpful. It could be that Samsung is outsourcing production of the A series chips to Global Foundries.

Looks like Globalfoundries licensed tech from Samsung and Apple will source A9s from both companys' plants.
