I am having problems playing some videos using quicktime. Like for a 100mb file it only plays about 2min of video. I wanted to know if their was another media player that would work with a Mac

More likely to be the file than the player thats at fault. And actually, 100mb for 2 mins is entirely possible if the person at the other end hasn't compressed it much.
That said, try Googling for VLC. |

I've had a similar problem with QT. It played properly in VLC though. It seems that QT was playing the video at about 14x more kb/s than was really called for, and the file only lasted about 90 seconds instead of the more than 20m. I don't know what the solution was for QT, but I started playing the file only in VLC.

What kind of file is it?
If it's an MPEG video, then this is an old issue. It's probably joined incorrectly and QuickTime is actually doing the correct thing by stopping after a certain segment ends. Players like VLC, on the other hand, keep reading past where it should stop. The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. Lemme check…
It says in QT, "Format: MPEG1 Muxed, 320 x 240" "FPS: 25" "Playing FPS: 25 (I had to press play again :-)) "Data Size: 207.17 MB" "Data Rate: 804.58 mbits/sec" "Current Time: 00:00:00.0/25" "Duration: 00:00:02.4/25" "Normal Size: 320 x 240 pixels" "Current Size: 320 x 240 pixels" In VLC it says, "General Duration: 0:20:31 Stream 0 Codec: mpgv Language Type: Video Stream 1 Codec: mpga Language Type: Audio" So it seems I underestimated just how big a jump it was with my previous post. Instead of even getting 90 seconds, I got 2.4 seconds. It's playing the file 512.91666666667x as fast as it's supposed to. |

So you're saying I should just stick with using VLC for this file?
