Apple is just on the ball this week with updates. A new version of isync is now out. It allows you to sync with the latest Moto, Sony Ericsson, and sendo phones.

Nice! But when do we get OTA (over-the-air) sync? Steak Tartare?

What do you mean by Over-The-Air sync? I sync my Sony Ericsson through BT right now... thats over the air isn't it?

I think he means for Motorola phones. I have a V525 that has BlueTooth but I have to use the cable. According to the discussion on macrumors.com it's because either 1) Apple doesn't support SyncML or 2) Moto doesn't support the right BlueTooth profiles.

OTA sync generally refers to synchronization via "cellular" (GSM, CDMA, etc.) network, i.e. over long distances. Of course it's great to be able to synchronize via BT or USB, but for that you have to be relatively close to your computer, wires or not. With OTA sync, you can leave your Mac behind, take only your phone on the road, and still sync up with the Mac/your office at home.

I remember talking about OTA sync at great length on AI.com. Harald was quite involved. And something like two years ago, even Think Secret predicted that a future version of iSync would include OTA sync.

I've been waiting for a true sub-PowerBook for more than 10 years. The 11-inch MacBook Air finally delivers on all counts! It beats the hell out of both my PowerBook 2400c and my 12-inch PowerBook G4 -- no contest whatsoever.
