There's periodic maintenance on weekends. I wouldn't get worked up over the prospects of something important appearing when the Store goes live again.

Of course, this isn't to say that something won't appear later this week.

Just to clarify, the reason for this is because posting "The store is down!" just results in a thread that has to be locked in a few minutes. The store always comes back up within a few minutes, and at that point, someone's going to post a new thread about whatever was just released. Or, if nothing was changed, there won't be a need for any new thread at all.

I think it's okay to post a response to a speculation thread announcing that the store is down and speculating that Apple might be getting ready to announce new products, but posting a new thread simply creates needless clutter.

P.S. Expanding on LudwigVan's post, Apple also will often update the store during the holidays, adding a holiday shopping section or something. They probably already did that earlier this season, but I don't know.
