Hi
Don't know if these have been around for long but I haven't seen them before... While it certainly has a cool vibe, I'm not sure I see the actual need for this in many industries. Maybe in air-traffic control, but the suggested use for DNA/protein viewing seems unnecessary. And with an update frequency of 30 Hz, the gamers wont find much use of it either Then of course there's the matter of the $40K price-tag. What do you guys think, gimmick or useful? |

After reading that, I don't see a use for any home user. 100 million "voxels" equals about a 464x464x464 area, too small to be much use for most stuff. Also, hundreds of colors? Naw, not any use for the average person, but Air Traffic Control is a good idea for it.

There was a coin-op video game years ago with back projected video into a glass sphere.
IIRC, the resolution and size were similar, as was the apparent 3d effect. I'm presuming this is an offshoot of that technology, but the folks at slashdot note Nintendo attempts too. |
