I am trying to decide which package to use for playing around with some simple trance music I want to put together...
This is not a major project. I am putting some quick stuff together using loops and midi files... If I am actually composing I use Cubase, but I want to have a play with some of the features of Soundtrack and Garageband to put some backing tracks together which can then either stand on their own, or be used as backing for bigger projects... Now, what I particularly like about Soundtrack is the ability to affect effect units and panning / volume for each track on a separate 'time-line' for each track and each effect on that track... That has pretty much sold me on Soundtrack. But I really want to play with Garageband. I cannot find a way to do that in Garageband, other than having lots of tracks with slightly different settings for each effect, but effectively the same loop or sample, or whatever on each track and kind of cascading them... Anyone understand what I mean? Anyone got a better way? As far as I know, other than volume automation Gargeband doesn't offer these options.

Thanx.. Kind of figured that but am grateful to have it confirmed and not bash my head against a wall looking for one of those little options you missed in a menu somewhere....

Yea, more extensive automation would be a great addition to Garageband, and it's also something that I think they are going to be adding in the next version, which is probably coming out at MWSF.
