Hi everyone,
I need to send some personal documents to a company, and I would like to encrypt them before I do that. I have never had to do this before so I would appreciate any help. I have looked at PGP and GnuPG and wanted some advise/opinions if this was the best way to do it. For GnuPG what is your favorite gui program? Are there other ways to do this? Thank you in advance!

Will just sending an encrypted disk image with my documents work?

Yep, emailing an encrypted disk image is probably easiest to get going and should work fine. Saves you the trouble of acquiring and setting up a custom certificate.

I'd imagine you'd need to select a strong password, no? Perhaps that goes without saying, but I don't think an encrypted disk image with a password of "password" would be particularly secure.

I think OS X has a high quality password generator somewhere... For a one-time transmission, you might think about a very long, very random password.

TrueCrypt is a great cross platform encryption software that's very robust and relatively easy to use. No Mac or PC needed just one or the other. Also, free.

TrueCrypt seems pretty good. But apparently the people at this background checking company can not open up disk images or know how to use TrueCrypt. I ended up sharing a dropbox folder and that worked out okay. There really should be an easier way for non tech savvy people to do this.
