Because in this housing market, it may be better to add an extension and refit.

The astronauts are ferrying a new member of the station's three-person crew and delivering a host of new equipment that will allow the outpost to support larger, six-person crews next year. The new equipment includes a space refrigerator and second kitchen, extra bathroom, two new bedrooms, extra gym equipment and a water recycling system to turn urine and waste water into a fresh drinking supply.
If we put the guest bedroom (with ensuite) and its own kitchenette down the hall from the separate entrance, can we sublet it?
Studio flat with awesome view. Suits science nerd. No pets. Parking negotiable. $40M/mo

Four spacewalks are planned for the mission to clean and grease up a damaged solar array gear designed to rotate like a paddlewheel to track the sun. The starboard side gear has been jammed with metal grit since last year, though a portside version is working fine.
And they're going to do some roofing and landscaping... cool. Did the landlord agree on a BBQ for the patio?

NASA hopes to launch Endeavour by Nov. 21 to avoid docking conflicts at the space station with an Russian Progress cargo ship slated to launch later this month. The shuttle flight's launch window closes on Nov. 25 due to unfavorable sun angles and heating concerns at the space station.

Endeavour's STS-126 mission will mark NASA's fourth shuttle flight of the year and the second to blast off at night. The same space shuttle launched into the predawn Florida sky during a March flight to the space station. About one-third of NASA's 123 shuttle missions to date have launched at night.

"It's going to be a beautiful sight," Blackwell-Thompson said.

Night launch = Beautiful... check.

Not sure if I can record as usual. I've recently switched to an HD box and I don't know if I can record from it to my video camera like I did on the SD box.

NASA TV is starting coverage... nice day on the pad... hope the night is as good.

5:32:00 to go.

Hmmmm.... Left SRB (from shuttle up view) has black bands... Right looks all white... messes up the symmetry.

It's currently a wicked clear night, I'm hoping for a beautiful look out of my front yard.

Are there any HD channels that will be covering this? I don't get CNN, MSNBC, Fox etc in HD.

I get local PBS in HD but I don't know if they cover it.

9 minutes and counting... all systems go so far

http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/

See 'Other Viewing Options' for a variety of options and formats...

The Public Channel in Real is a 150kpbs feed in RV10/9/8 (degrades as connection drops)
The QT link is pitiful 160x120, but if you've got Flip4Mac you can run the 320x240 WMV9 stream over 150kpbs (with a bit softer/fuzzier colours compared to the Real codecs, IMO)
The Media Channel seems to run less of the commentary audio, but has more ambient pad venting noise

IIRC earlier today they said they were trying some new web things this mission, so the regular routine may shift as far as who/where/when

It's on the link at the end of the first post. Watching in Quicktime right now waiting for the local TV to pick it up.

Shepard just said there's an open door in the white room!

...which is a room the leads to the gantry so they can get into the shuttle. NASA is worried it could be blown open by the take-off...

From what I understand night blast-off is rare, goodie!

Night launches are rare, only around 25% of all launches are at night.

Here's a shot from my front yard (Orlando). It's a crappy iPhone cam but it's better than nothing. The orange glow I saw with the naked eye was just incredible tonight. In the picture the top most dot is the shuttle, the bottom left is the moon and the bottom right is the neighbors porch light.

All seemed smooth... nominal MECO and no OMS 1 burn required.

We'll see what the post launch press conference reports.
