The 15" MacBook Pro recieved a minor update today. The $2,499 model used to be 2.53 GHz, but now it's 2.66 GHz - and instead of only being able to BTO it to 2.8 GHz, you can now BTO it up to 2.93 GHz. In other words, it's basically the same as the 17" MacBook Pro, processor-wise.
The $1,999 model has a "new" tag next to it too, but I can't figure out what's changed - it's still 2.4 GHz. Any ideas? and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong |

Man, it's been a long time since they've updated this much stuff in one big move...hardware (across multiple lines) and accessories.
Quite the day to be the kind of dork who enjoys crawling all around Apple's site, learning what's what and taking in all the changes and new goodies. Guilty! |

Any word on when/if Apple will update the 15" MacBook Pro to handle 8 GB RAM? 8 GB of RAM is incredible overkill for most things, but it would be very useful for virtualizing. A full 3 GB for my Windows VM would be awesome. (XP can only do 3 otherwise I would go 4/4.)
It's just a software update - the logic board can handle it. Still waiting for the buttonless trackpad on the Air. Must... resist... specwhoring... Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end. |

More RAM headroom would be wonderful, I feel limited by the 3GBs of RAM my old MBP can take.

What is the verdict on the performance of the SSD vs. hard disc drive, specifically in the MacBook Pro? Has anyone read real-world tests comparing, for example the 256 GB SSD to the 250 GB at 5400 and 7200 RPM?

Barefeats and others have done a few. Grains of salt optional but recommended.
