Wow, just saw this. Came out of nowhere, didn't it? We assumed there would be something, but nothing pointing to this week...
http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/05/...this-thursday/ Should be some good stuff to hear about. |

But will it be immediately available for download or waiting till June? Want so bad iPhone is not feeling the love lately.

It says "sneak peek", so that's an almost definite "no" for immediate download (of a public version).

I hope the new OS is available as an upgrade for iPad.

- seems to imply an early, initial glimpse (and maybe some overall "here's what we've got in store" discussion). But not a full-tilt, "we're finished!" release. So no...I seriously doubt iPhone 4.0 will be available to the public Thursday. This is nothing new, of course. They always do an early "peek" at an event like this, followed by the official release several months later (perhaps tying in with the new iPhone's release?) Maybe certain developers will be able to get their hands on the early 4.0 to start testing and doing their stuff with it. But not us regular joes. EDIT: Ha...chucker is quick on the draw! |

Why wouldn't it be? It runs the iPhone OS. Hell, I bet iPhone OS 3.2 is what OS 4.0 will look like. Just add in multi-tasking, etc( hopefully).

The iPad user agreement specifically states the next major OS revision will be available at no cost to iPad users.
I'm stoked anD looking forward to when I can try out the v4.0 beta (hopefully on 4/8 ). Last edited by bassplayinMacFiend : 2010-04-05 at 20:23. |

I hope there are gestures in the os. I find myself doing the 3 finger swipe to go back in Safari like I do on my trackpad.

I wonder if they'll announce the international iPad pricing/exact shipping dates at some point on Thursday. I know it looks like an iPhone OS-only event, but it would be convenient to throw this in there (not to mention it's about time too).

Support for Flash? *ducks*
Or at least better development tools to replicate Flash animation. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, Flash video is simple enough to convert to HTML 5. But it's the interactive and animation part that's a bit more complicated to convert. |

With jquery you can do just about anything flash can and in my experience it's all comparable in the current iPhone os. Flash really isn't needed in today's Internet.

A lot of people want multitasking for OS 4.0, and I'm in that pile too, if only to have things like internet radio in the background - I'm just wondering what other goodies it'll have. Gestures? Widgets? Animated lock screen? I has a curious.

there's over 100 new user features. Create playlists, 5x digital zoom, tap to focus on video, gift apps, geotagging, places in the photo app, change the homescreen wallpaper, bluetooth keyboards... spell checker.
Gift apps, persistent WiFi, iPod out, search SMS/MMS, wake on Wireless, CalDAV invitations, web search suggestions. “These are just a few end user features. Of those, we’re going to talk about seven today.” MULTITASKING |

“Let’s start off with the first one, the biggest: multitasking!”
Big applause. “We weren’t the first to this party, but we’re going to be the best. Like cut and paste — it’s better than any other implementation. It’s really easy to implement it in a way that really drains battery life. And, it’s really easy to implement it in a way that reduces the performance of the foreground app and makes your phone feel sluggish.” Double-click home button to see active apps: |

Double click home button to bring up running apps, looks like a Dock overlay on the bottom of whatever app you're in.

They are reducing potential problems with 3rd party apps doing whatever they want by providing 7 distinct multitasking services for developers, one of which is background audio, e.g. Pandora. "It took only one day for developers to make Pandora fully background-aware."

Called it, at least in general terms, on the background audio streaming thing.
