I read that iPods can sync calendars and contacts. Is this straight from iCal/Address Book? Also, what about memos? Does it use Stickies?

Yes thats true. Yeah, straight from iCal and Add. Book. You set it to alarm you for events too. No stickies, but good idea!

There is actually a way to store (of course) and even view text documents on your iPod. I believe it can even sync the documents that you (manually) specify.

I haven't tried syncing documents, but I know where they go -- into the Notes folder on the iPod.
Make them plain text and less than 4k. If it's larger, use something like Book2Pod, which makes a multi-page file that's usable on the iPod. http://www.tomsci.com/book2pod/ I put Mapquest driving directions onto my iPod by clicking the "PDA" button on Mapquest, then selecting the resulting text. Next, I go to Safari>Services>TextEdit>New Window Containing Selection, which produces a text document containing that same Mapquest text. I change the format to plain text and save it in the Notes folder on the iPod. Bingo, portable directions without paper. I'm sure that somebody's written an Applescript to do the same thing, though... |
