I am using Adobe Creative Suite 2, Wings3d, and Blender to help create some game resources I need.

I am considering buying a new graphics tablet. I am considering the Wacom Intuos 4x5.

Does anyone have any experience with using a graphics tablet?

Any pros/cons/advice welcomed

They are great... Fairly intuitive to learn. Wacom's are the best...

Only side issues I have had are the invariant need to replace the tips of the pen as they wear down...

People have been talking about the possibility of "Mac tablet" being released RSN since the Newton was killed eight years ago.

even if a mac tablet is released, i think azcoder is just talking about desktop tablets.

i'm on the look for a 4x5 tablet as well, and Wacom has been the company name that pops up most often. their tablets look nice and i've heard nothing but good things about them.

You certainly shouldn't hold your breath for the Tablet Mac, which could be years away (if they'll release it at all). Apart from that, the idea behind using a tablet is to get touch and tilt/direction sensitivity, which you won't with a Tablet Mac.

Ok - Thanks for the tips.....looks like I'm going for the Wacom Intuos.

One more question - I am relatively new to Photoshop and Creative Suite. Do you have any recommended user forums or sites to help with questions? I have tried googling, and there are tons and tons of links, but many of them are dead, lame, or trying to sell stuff.....

Maybe you should consider the 6x8, or even the 6x11, the "widescreen" version. You usually use only a part of the tablet with the ratio of the screen. It depends on the size of your display, and what kind of work you want to do. If you want to use it for drawing, I would buy a larger one.
If you have two monitors, the 4x5 would be to small. for me at least.

if you've got the money to spend i highly highly recommend www.totaltraining.com for learning photoshop

it's hosted by Deke McClelland who is one of the Who's Who in the photoshop world

another person to look out for is Kevin Ames... he does a some videos for Software Cinema....

the two of them have written probably two of the best books on photoshop too

I use a 4x5 Wacom Graphire3 and love it. I prefer the smaller size because I have tendonitis in my arm so it limits the movement I have to make. Of course, that's the whole reason I switched to a tablet in the first place, so you might want something bigger. I'm used to it so I can get along just fine retouching and whatnot in Photoshop.

B&H Photo has the clearance Wacom Graphire 3 6x8" for $99.95.[It used to be 179 or so]..

It comes with Photoshop elements and Painter essentials.

Unless you really need the extra sensitivity of the Intuos...then this will work fine.

A program like Painter or Alias Sketchbook really shines with a Wacom tablet.
