It was exactly 50 years ago on September 5, 1957 that Kerouac's Beat Generation classic "On the Road" first hit bookshelves, signifying the beginning of the Beats.

Tomorrow on September 5th Apple has the event with the teaser "The Beat Goes On". Which when I first read that last week, couldn't help but think of Jack, Neil, etc. and then today found out about the above information, which made it more pointed somehow.

I'm sure it is probably just cosmic coincidence, but I thought it was kind of cool nontheless. And wanted to tell someone who might give a damn, or think it was cool like I did.

Since no one here at work would really know much about either Kerouac or Apple.

Who?

Just kidding - my wife's uncle was Ginsberg's editor at times, and teaches beat lit at VMI of all places.

I'm sure it's just coincidence, but still, thanks for the heads up on the anniversary.

That just doesn't compute...I can't picture the joining of those two particular worlds/cultures.

The name of the event doesn't seem to be coincidental but that's probably all there is to it.

Hey, thanks for the notification.

It's probably more Beatles related than Kerouac inspired. However, if they have a copy of that box set of Jack reading his prose with Steve Allen playing piano I'd buy it.

I have that very collection on my iPod at the moment. Even before I knew about the coincidence.
If you're at all interested in Kerouac, it's well worth it.

Thanks. I don't think it's on the iTunes Store though. I might have to order it online as a CD boxset. I've been meaning to do so for years.

Since you seem a Kerouac fan, LenrdZelig, I'd appreciate your thoughts. I have some audible credits - any recommendations from the following link?
