First off, I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere. I did a quick check of ifoapplestore.com with no luck.

I want to buy a 12" Superdrive PB at my local (Rancho Cucamonga) Apple Store on Friday. I called them, and they were out. The lady said she didn't know when they'd receive more.

My questions are several:
-Is there any typical "delivery day" for Apple Stores? Do they usually receive shipments on Fridays, maybe?
-Should the store allow me to reserve the product if they're not currently in stock? If so, for how long?
-If they don't accept reserves, would calling as an employee from another Apple Store help things? (Dirty, I know, but I want a PB)

Also, a fairly unrelated question:
-Are the sales people allowed to bargain at all? For example, I plan to KVM switch the PB with my PC. Would they throw in a mini-DVI to VGA adapter? Or is this outside of their policy?

Anyway, I'd appreciate any answers you guys could provide. I've been lurking for the most part on this forum, as well as the Mac Rumors and AppleInsider forums. Everyone has been a great help in bringing me to the light side of computing... I was a die-hard PC guy.

Anyway, thanks again.

Welcome!

If they're out of stock, you can place an order right in the store and it'll be delivered to your home.

I wouldn't expect any bargaining at all. BUT, the powerbook already comes with a mini-DVI to vga adapter. HTH.

I believe you can get on a wait list at the store, but you might as well place an order online, since stock will be hard to come by for the near future. Plus you have BTO options with online orders.

As per ifoapplestore.com - the person at the store who is most "in-the-know" as to what is due in when, is the Inventory Control Specialist, or "ICS". If you were to call the Apple Store and press "5" and ask to speak to the "ICS", you might actually *sound* like an employee of another store, if such a thing seems valuable to you. Anyway, the ICS would be the best person to give your name and phone number, if asking to be put on a waiting list for the out-of-stock product. They receive shipments every day, but mid-week (Tue-Wed-Thurs) are typical days for large shipments of CPU products.

Or so I've been told....

Depends on who you talk to, at what store, on what day, and who is in a good mood that day. IOW, YMMV.
