I need some hotel recommendations. What's good? I'd like to keep it under $200/night.

You didn't mention when you are going, but if you use Kayak or any good travel site it will be hard to find a room over $200. Most are in the 100 -180 dollar range. you could probably find something pretty posh for $200.
I stay at the Venetian, but it's the only one that was more than two hundred, I only stay there because I enjoy Bouchon, the restaurant there. I don't gamble, so I don't know if it's good for that. "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |

Thanks. I'm going in about a month. I initially made reservations at Mandalay Bay, but that seems a bit far away from the main part of the strip.

I stayed at the Flamingo last time I was out there.
A little dated, but the rooms were fine and really, all we did was sleep there, so it wasn't a big deal at all. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

Mandalay Bay is nice... easy enough to hop on the monorail from close to there, isn't it?
I'm going in April, but I'll be on better behaviour than usual... wife *and* kids in tow. It's going to be tough to hit the Spearmint Rhino this time around. I think we're staying at the Mandalay - wifey wanted the beach/pool for the kids. |

I think that's cool if you're taking kids/wife. I'm just going with a guy friend, and it struck me that Mandalay is probably more the family-oriented resort than we wanted.

Bouchon is Thomas Keller's (French Laundry, Per Se) Vegas restaurant. It's French but heavily meat oriented. Expensive (2 can eat for 100 plus drinks/dessert/tip) but not nearly as expensive as Per Se or French Laundry. If you get a chance and you like fine food, hit it.
Vegas has become a real food town, but the buffet is still king, especially if your taking the kids. In fact whenever we go someplace now I look to see if there is an Indian Casino buffet to make sure the kids eat. "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |

no ostrich, Beef grass fed, a lot of fresh off the boat sea food, a lamb dish, a chicken, dish my wife had a fresh stream trout that was really good, I think everything is done in butter.
have fun! I don't think you need to gamble to enjoy vegas, I could just watch people all day long. here's the current menu, not much different than a month ago. "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |
