I would like to obtain some kind of application that is able to synchronize one folder one my internal disk drive to a backup copy of that folder on another volume. I'm thinking of something like Carbon Copy Cloner, but with more options for specific folders. Strangely enough, and simple as my need seems to be, I haven't tracked down a worthy candidate yet. Any ideas?

There's a few apps on MacUpdate that seem to be what you're looking for. YMMV

If you're feeling geeky, rsync is a truly wonderful application (and written by a Canberran!)

Otherwise, I'm rather fond of Chronosync — they have a trial which will sync up to 50-odd files. It's major advantage is automagic mounting of remote filesystems (yes, I know you can do this with rsync, but it's substantially more of an effort).

not free, but switchback is an excellent app.

i have a small 5gb 'shuttle' drive i carry around for my freelance graphic work. sometimes im on the road updating files, sometimes i'm at home working off the internal drive.

once a week i hit sync and it puts the newest version on both drives. the app has all kinds of prompts (if you like) to make sure youre not overwriting anything accidentally; it can do one-way incremental backups, one-way archives, or true two-way syncs (like i do).

very quick, very simple--hasnt let me down in over 5 years (re-written now for native osx, but worked great in os9 too)
