I have copied movies that I own before in the past, for movies on the go, and such. Just yesterday I was going to copy a new one, actually, one for the girlfriend, entitles 'The Notebook'. How I usually go about doing this is past the encryption with Mac the Ripper, and burn the DVD with Popcorn.

This is hte first time I have ever had any problems, so this being a new title makes me think that Hollywood has a new plan for people wanting to copy.

MactheRipper has a dialogue box saying "READ ERROR - CAN'T OPEN THE IFO", and I press okay, and it tries to read it anyway after that, and then another dialogue box comes and says" I/O ERROR - CAN'T READ DVD FILE STRUCTURE"

Any thoughts?

Have you tried a different app, such as Handbrake?

Some other programs like DVDbackup require you to play a few seconds of the DVD in Apple's DVD player before it can rip. You may try to do that.

^^ One more quality post from the desk of Ebby. ^^

MacTheRipper can cut through that funky Sony stuff though. You would have to select some checkboxes though to get a successful rip.

I know I couldn't backup the new Charlie and Chocolate Factory.

This thread is bordering on piracy. I think it's a worthwhile discussion, but I doubt it'll be open much longer. That said, I've never had trouble with DVD Backup after playing the disc for a couple of seconds. I have heard that it won't work on some newer movies, so maybe that's what's going on.

I'd agree with that. I suggest we need to be a little more careful about how we frame these discussions.
