(CNN) -- U.S. Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean, the main suspect in the killing of a 20-year-old pregnant Marine, has been captured in Mexico, federal authorities announced Thursday. Authorities are awaiting extradition to bring Laurean, who has been on the run since January, back to North Carolina. Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she was last seen near Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, in December. A month later, her charred body, along with that of her fetus, was found beneath a fire pit in Laurean's backyard in Onslow County.

Not only that, but Mexico usually demands the suspect can't face more than the equivalent of Mexico's "life" sentence, which is usually 20 years (which, translated into Mexican, means 2 years, and then a payment to the local judge).

Don't be dropping that sort of flamebait in this thread...because that's exactly what 70% (or more) of people here are going to take that as.

Even though that's the kind of question I sometimes wonder about, this is different. Senator Kennedy didn't purposely murder his companion and flee the country. You can't compare a drunken accident (and his behavior immediately afterwards) to this Laurean guy. I'm not defending either, mind you. I'd just like to see this thread not turn to complete "yeah, but..." shit.

Every other country on Earth claims moral superiority to the U.S. Why not Mexico?
