Im editing 4K video - and working with 42MP and 50MP Files. I have the 4.0ghz 4gb Graphics Gard, and 3TB fusion. Feeling a little laggy crossing over from my MBP 17" (2012) with dual internal Samsung Pro 840 SSDs. I only have 16GB ram, but the videos I've see only show slight speed differences between maxing out and 16gb. So how else can I speed up this machine?

Not much you can do, the lack of speed is due to choosing the fusion drive (flash cache mixed with 5400rpm or 7200rpm HDD not sure which goes with the 27" iMacs) over an SSD.

570mb write, 1732 read - but still feels laggy - Which doesn't make sense. Cause my SSD in the MBP runs at 560 write and 830 read. But though its there a way of replacing the SSD that's screwed in with like a 1TB, and then put in a 1TB SSD in the Fusion's spot?

Don't be fooled by read and write tests with a fusion drive. It's better than an HDD, or Seagate's traditional hybrid HDD, but it's not as good as those specs make it look. Where the fusion drive will struggle is working with is video, and large RAW files, which is why you are seeing slow downs. The slow downs come when the flash cache fills up and has to wait for the HDD to find stuff.

The flash cache is soldered onto the logicboard, no way to upgrade that. You could replace the hard drive with an SSD. I doubt Apple will do it since they don't ship 2.5" SSD's (Apple installs NVME SSD's in all modern Macs, again soldered to the board), so you'd need a third party Apple citified tech if you wanted to install a 2.5" SSD to get better IO performance.

Wouldn't a Thunderbolt External SSD be the fastest realistic option in this case?

Sorry I didn't email notification - https://youtu.be/81PjGv8B-eo?t=7m53s shows that the late 2015 have a removable SSD stick.

I know with my 2014 I cant add an SSD without some thermal thing, and I've only seen 1 video where someone replaced the Fusion with SSD. and they didn't add that. Has that issue gone away?

What would be nice it to have a 1 or 2 TB Flash stick as the main drive and take out the 3TB and pop in a 1TB SSD for just storage or something.. I keep all my projects and files on a OWC ThunderBay 2 Thunderbolt RAID 5, so dont really need internal storage except when I am working on a Project. Then it gets dumped onto the Raid 5 and deleted from the iMac.

I didn't install any heart pads with my SSD (2.5') in a 2011 model, so I don't know why a newer model would need one. You would need sticky pads to keep the drive in place, since the drive mounts in the iMac were for a 3.5' drive.

If you don't save the thermal sensor from the stock drive then you need third party software like Macs Fan control or the HDD fan will spin at full speed all the time.
