When I go to formate the computer, they ask me for the admin password I dont know what is. The orginal person never told me what it is. Is there a way of getting around this.

ps or can change admin password and settings in the preference page?

Nope... you'll need to know what the administrator password is in order to change the administrator password.

By "formate the computer" do you mean trying to reformat the main drive? If so, you can do it from the OS install disc. Somewhere in the process of installing the OS, you'll be able to select the option "Format and Install", and that will wipe the drive.

You can do this with your original install DVD (1) or a retail version of OS X.
Make sure you install a fresh system and not "Archive and install" The latter option indeed keeps your user information intact.
