No, I had never heard of him before. I was just working the desk at the library and he came in and asked for a book on reserve. There was a problem because he didn't have an account (he had only registered for a single class) so my supervisor came out and gave him temporary borrowing privileges.

She said he seemed familiar and when we were entering his info she noticed his name - Kelvin Trent Tucker. After he left she told me he was a former basketball player for the Timberwolves who also had done coaching and announcing.

I'm not a basketball fan though... oh well.

My brother recently told me about a story of his friend who was at a whole foods market when some dude bumped into her cart accidentally. He looked at her food casually and struck up a conversation. They talked for a little bit and he asked if she'd like to come out to a pub with his mates that night. She politely refused and he walked away. After he left. Some friends of the girl(that work at the whole foods) came up to her like "omg! how could you do that! that was morissey!"

Apparently, one of her friends passed by his car shortly after and saw that he was crying.

as for trent tucker, I don't really know him. I am a basketball fan, but I've never really gotten into the whole studying of players and teams. I just enjoy the game a lot.

Ya, he's some music guy, I'm not all that familiar with him myself, but I think he's really big in the female young adult 'alternative' music scene.

A singer. The Smiths. Strikes me as a bit of a tortured, flamboyant soul. Not a fan, but I dig that one song with the churning tremolo...

Believe me, kscherer, I had no idea who this Morissey guy is, nor have I ever heard of a band called The Smiths. And I'm not old at all (21).

Well, I don't think they're together anymore. Morrissey is doing the solo thing, and the guitarist, Johnny Marr, is doing his own thing.

I think they were more an 80's deal...at least that's when I became aware of them and my friends had their tapes and albums.

Ah... here you go!

Whoa, you guys obviously have no idea if you think you have to be young to know who Morrissey is.

Yikes.

"And the flesh you so fancifully fry
the meat in your mouth as you savor the flavor

in between his overwrought poetry and his bored delivery I could never tell if Morrissey was pulling one over on everyone or not.

and for no other reason than the guitar part in How Soon Is Now, Johnny Marr's feet should never have to touch pavement, he should be carried where ever he goes.

I always liked "Cemetry Gates" best.

Wow, Morrissey got turned down. That would make him cry.

BTW - Morrissey is his last name. He just dropped the usage of his first and middle name. Steve was his first name, don't know about the middle name.

Well no wonder my Google attempts were fruitless! Wrao misspelled his name - it has two R's, not one. Everyone else followed suit.

At first I was pretty confused as to why my last name turned up twice as many hits as his name.

Preach it, brother. I agree.

Listen to that with headphones...between the churning bed of tremolo, the cascading slides and just the general "beautiful racket", you'll feel quite swirly and goo-gooey.

I make it a point to play it at least twice a week, just to remind myself how cool a wall of guitars can sound...

jesus, he can be so hilarious, but then he sings it so deadpan.

You know why all those brit rockers from punk and after that changed their names? So they could stay on the dole. British welfare took a long time to track that stuff down, so you have strummer's, your vicious's, stings, and rottens.
it wasn't posturing, well it was, but it was also getting $$ to live on.

he was androgynous up to the point where he appealed to straight gay and bi
folks, appealing all without turning off too many.
He's like Stipe, keep 'em guessing without making it a political thing. But I never read interviews with him or anything maybe he was more open about his preferences. (from his pull down menu?)

And like Robert Smith (and Buddy Holly) all his die-hard followers* tend to look like him, or cultivate the look anyway.

*edit- changed from fan, I mean I'm a fan, but I never tried to look like him. But man, I knew about a dozen....
