I was listening to the radio late last night when this story popped up.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6524495.stm Basically they are attaching loudspeakers to CCTV cameras across the UK so camera operators can shout at people when they do something wrong, such as drop a piece of litter, to try and tackle anti-social behavior. Personally I wouldnt be doing the bad thing in the first place () but if I was to hear one of these things, I would probably be too busy rolling around on the floor laughing to do what its telling me. Also, in my opinion, most of the people that take part in acts of anti-social behavior arent really going to care that a camera is shouting at them. Perhaps if the camera was armed with a tazer or something it may have more effect... |

Even though I do toy with the idea of bringing back corperal punishment, I have to point out that public humilation wasn't always so successful.
I mean, if it worked, we'd still be putting petty criminals in stocks and send them off to wander aimlessly in town central and suffer mockery and some rotten apples from jeering crowd. But it didn't deter repeat offenders. Same will probably be true of talking CCTV, IMO. |
