I just got a bunch of songs and when I drag and drop the folder w/all of the WMA songs it won't import the songs to itunes. I've tried opening the songs w/itunes, sending them and everything else. How can I get all my WMA files to ituens?

You cannot. iTunes does not support WMA format.
Do you have a Mac or a PC? Because I think the Windows version of iTunes has some kind of a converter, but the Mac version does not. |

Download the free Flip4Mac WMV component. This alows you to open WMV-files with QuickTime player.
Open a WMV-file in QT-player, choose edit ->select all. Paste into an empty QT-player window (File -> New Player) Save this movie. After you have added the resulting movie (which still contains a WMV-track inside a .mov container) to iTunes, you should be able to export it to iPod by choosing 'Convert Selction for iPod' from iTunes' advanced menu. |

Yes I was. Sorry to have confused you.
It might work similarly for audio though. You won't be able to do anything with DRM'ed WMA-files on a Mac though. |

Maybe someone gifted him a Napster gift card and he was stuck using it to buy some tunes, and now he would like to play the songs he PURCHASED on his device of choice. I don't think many songs are traded using the WMA format.:smokey:

I think torifile meant to add the words "... A SECOND TIME IN ITUNES, SUCKA!". Could be wrong, though.

Or perhaps this guy switched from Windows recently and has several GB of music in WMA format, which he ripped from CDs he owns. Maybe he just wants a quicker way of converting it than re-ripping.
And like MyNameIsEarl said, not many songs are swapped on file sharing networks with the WMA format. It's almost exclusively MP3s. |

Although, yes, believe it or not some people do swap WMA files on P2P networks. |

i did not DL these songs you pr-i-c-k-s, so quit jumping to conclusions. I had my old PC that had really really old Dave songs on it. I sent them to myself over the internet and now they just are sitting on my desktop in WMA format. Thanks for not helping and just being annoying, 35 yr. old computer geeks that like nothing more except to be smartasses to ppl that need help.

So, I take it from your description that what you did was rip CD albums to WMA? Thus, your WMA files aren't DRMd? A search for WMA at MacUpdate reveals Hyperion, which appears to be the kind of solution you're looking for. |

Hyperion does not work.
I select the WMV files, hit Convert, and it opens Terminal and feeds off a bunch of crap. Quote:

It's the spaces in file names.

No problem. Glad to have been of service despite my initial misunderstanding of the question.

Right right, like I didn't think of that. I'm in college.... CD's are now at home.

Well, re-ripping the CDs is the only way to get good quality. Perhaps you could get someone at home to post you the CD? Encoding to a lossy format is like making a photocopy: the quality is not perfect. And what you are proposing is making a photocopy of a photocopy, so quality will suffer.
If you simply must do it, you have a couple of options. EasyWMA does it, like its name suggests, very easily. However, the current version costs money (I have an older version from when it was free). If I remember correctly, EasyWMA is simply a baby-simple GUI for ffmpeg. A much more comprehensive GUI for ffmpeg and other codecs is ffmpegX, which would also allow you to convert WMA to MP3. The installation procedure is a bit more involved than for most apps, but it's certainly not hard if you're capable of following basic instructions. If you have QuickTime Pro you can also use a method very similar to the one julesstoop explained. Install the Flip4Mac component for QuickTime and open the WMA file in QuickTime Player. "Select All" and "Copy", then open a "New Player" and "Paste". "Save" the file, then for good measure close and re-open it, then "Export" to AIFF. Open the AIFF file in iTunes and encode to whatever format you want. |
