mzungo,

What I meant to say was 'Welcome'! Take your time and look around, we're not all like me.

Sorry to have jumped to what seems to have been a hasty conclusion.

I see a blog post with a donate button on the right hand side, and some ads from third parties. Even if the poster here and the author of the blog are one and the same person, I still doubt this was intended as spam. I could of course be entirely wrong; I just don't think we should jump at every newbie just because they link somewhere.

I don't think he's trying to spam us. He's just providing an interesting link.

I actually meant to post this myself a few months ago when the story first came out, but I never got around to it (that I can remember).

Which column is that? The links on the right are all links to content. There are a few ads, but lots of blogs have those. There's more than enough content on that site for this not to count as spam.

It's a neat mod. I'm also thinking about converting my PowerBook into a home server, and will perhaps have to remove at last parts of the case so it won't run too hot when plugged in all the time.

The one called cool designs and products has a number of links to site where things are for sale.

I guess that's the consensus.

But all those links point to different websites, and they're not even affiliate links. I really don't see the problem.

Welcome to AppleNova, mzungo.
Thanks...

I really like what they are doing... and thought about giving my old iBook a makeover after reading the article.

He's a novice spammer and he's lying. He posted this as early as July in multiple places.

Google searches show that username posting other links to that blog for months, at least (example). There are likely other spammed links under other usernames.

Perhaps "attention seeker" is a more apt description, then. There isn't much money to make from ads on a blog.

And if you have enough readers that you are making money, you don't need to be a self-promoter like this.

Apparently there is enough for lots of people to start doing this frequently. In this case, he has three ad units per post. He's clearly doing it for money.
