Pumpkin soup and thick, hot and crusty sourdough bread on a cold Winter's night

crisp, fresh bed sheets

(add my voice to the chorus)
snuggling up nice and warm when it is "pissing down" outside

Frangelico and lime over crushed ice

(since I haven't been practising for ages, the following hasn't happened in a long time - but I used to love it)
mastering a difficult passage on the piano and being able to play it up to speed

Mum's lasagne

drinking a long, tall Creamy Soda on ice whilst sitting and reading the paper at the table on our verandah on a Summer's day

walking through a foreign city for the first time with your iPod on - pure escapism

gotta agree with scratt - opening a new piece of Apple kit

the endorphin rush after exercise or other physical activity (must do it more often!)

getting a positive tax return!

saving hard and saving well (OK - maybe that's just me)

having your significant other know you so well that it blows your mind sometimes

... going without a few pleasures occasionally so you can appreciate the ones you have all the more - there's someting to be said for self denial too I think.

Taking a nice dump.

Sorry, it had to be said. There's nothing quite like it.

Ew!

Conversely probably one of the worst things in the world is one that doesn't seem to end properly!

I am surprised by this too, now that you mention it. What the hell's wrong with us?

This I would categorize as a Big Thing™, and was thinking of just such a thread but we'll let this one run its course I think.

When you order something in a restaurant and the menu had one or two serious contenders on it.

The food comes.

That first taste, when you know you've made the right decision, and that you are winning the War of the First Course, is a Little Thing That Rules. I often like to put down my knife and fork / chopsticks / fingers and sit back for a moment looking at my plate and making gestures.

Oh oh oh, and when you've taken the chain off your bicycle, cleaned it, cleaned your rear gear, cleaned your rims and hubs, cleaned the frame, and then you lubricate everything, and everything's gleaming, and you set off?

That's A Little Thing That Rules.

Sometimes you change gear and it goes 'click'. That's A Little Extra Thing that Rules.

We call the palm-sized frawns 'shrimp' where I'm from. I love Thai, but I can't say I've ever had any with shrimp. Mostly fried tofu and such.

Thai women on the other hand...or palm.......yummy.

And even yummier if she's waving shrimp at me.

So it goes.

Definitely. I actually still remember the first instant I saw my wife like it happened yesterday. It was like a shampoo commercial, she whipped her head around, her long dark hair bounced around and behind her head, and she shot me a smile that made my heart skip a few beats.

And I was all wrapped up in my jersey sheets and comforter, snug as a bug. I slept really well that night (this was Tuesday, I believe).

Uh, ok, did I accidentally go to the Kenny G message boards? Or the Get In Touch With Your Feminine Side message boards?

And you guys complained about mentioning taking a dump?!! These 2 posts scared me more than any poop discussion could.

Talk about Kenny G

This is actually very sweet and it made me smile. Please don't do it again. (Just kidding.)

I think talking about being snuggled up snug as a bug in your comforter listening to rain is a little different than falling for a hot chick.

Having a cup of fresh ground coffee, with just the right amount of cream, then getting back in bed and surfing wirelessly.

But weren't you talking about YOUR wife? I don't know where the "hot chick" has anything to do with this.

After 5-10 minutes of a girl giving a speech in front of the entire computer science class about how nanotechnology is the reason we are able to have HDTV's, computers, and "I-Pods," and you tell her you believe she was talking about microprocessor technology, and she tells you that you are wrong...realizing the project is worth 100 points and the teacher isn't stupid.

That's kind of like a -tve and a +tve cancelling each other out.
And I think the air freshener is only really a +tve because of the negative.
So I am not sure if that really comes under the Little Things that Rule heading...

In fact the flatulance thing almost totally overrides everything else in the head and I think even makes the air freshenre a negative..

I think the smell of clean washing, or your children's hair, or your wife warm and sleepy in bed cuddled up to you are the things we are looking for here!! Not farty mates!!
