All this speculation sometimes gets out of hand, so I figured that I'd cut through the crap and just get to the dates.

If anyone wants to come up with a "prize" for the winner (or a, ahem, "prize" for the person who's most wrong.. lol), post it up.

I thought of posting a poll, but there's quite a few dates for people to pick.

I'm not gonna make a choice because I don't care.

I'll bet my birthday, Nov 29th.

If I end up being wrong, I'll just drink it all away because I'll be legally allowed to drink on that date

I was going to add something about that, but didn't feel like it. (Roboman? Not feeling sarcastic? NEVAR!)

I still can't believe that Apple had an event just to announce a point upgrade to Aperture.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

Based on
1) the event actually being 20% shorter than planned,
2) the demo being extremely long, much more so than usual,
it's not too much of a stretch to wonder if they meant to show something else, but had to call it off last-minute due to unexpected issues.

So, theoretically, it would've been yesterday, Sept. 25th.

If they do have issues, then they'll either be fixed very quickly, or they'll take another few months to be sure they're done.

They'll release it prematurely just so they can sit back and enjoy the millions of forum posts of "OMG it's too hot it's too cold my fan is broken it emits monkey noises".

I just bought my 17" MBP yesterday.... and I lurve it!

So it must surely be today or tomorrow that Apple will release the true 64bit upgraded processor spec of these machines!

And you know what... I couldn't care less.

True. We went through all that with the iMac G5: It was almost certainly planned for release at WWDC '04, but Apple reportedly had problems with it...leading up to a shorter keynote than planned, a shortage of iMac G4s that summer, etc.

Jobs even hinted in that keynote that we wouldn't have long to wait for the iMac G5 - remember the "Paris" Spotlight fiasco?

So, uh, yeah...is their a stream of the Photokina event we can pick apart for "clues" yet?

Not to mention the Store still hasn't been brought down and back up to introduce Aperture 1.5.

Given that my new 17" Rev a MBP comes tomorrow, I'd guess: any time after tomorrow.

is photokina finished yet? if no - what are the chances of it being anounced later in this event? - just a .5 release for an apple event? pffft

They didn't bring the store down, but 1.5 is on the store now.

I'm going for October 10 as well. That gives enough time to work out whatever minor kinks may have delayed an announcement yesterday, as well as a big gap to let shipments catch up in time for the major holiday buying period.

Also note that Aperture 1.5 is not at all mentioned on the front page...probably because it was going to be part of a bigger update to the site.

Next week's my guess.

What makes people say October 10th? Is there something special about that particular tuesday?

First reply was October 10. Lacking creativity, someone else supported that answer and set the wheels in motion.
