I have been using my wifes 1GB Shuffle for over a week now while I wait for my ipod video to arrive. At home I tried copying songs onto it using USB 2 via a PCI card I previously installed and it was very slow copying songs onto it. I figured at work things would be faster on my G5 but I am now copying songs as I type this and on average each song take 10 or more seconds to copy.
Is this the fault of the shuffle or is USB2 this slow. I am getting the iPod video on Saturday and I am hoping its not going to be this slow copying songs and videos on to it. portable: MacBook 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD | personal: PowerMac G5 dual 2.3ghz, 6GB RAM, 6TB HD | work: MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD | car: Alpine iDA-W407 with black iPod 80GB | pocket: iPhone 3GS with Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro's |

usurp I have a 1GB Shuffle, and have experienced that problem. Having said that, it seems to be quite temperamental.
At times it was taking in excess of 35 seconds to complete one song, I reset the iPods software, and the speed was vastly improved. Its been trouble free since. jm. |

Yes, 10 seconds per song seems a bit slow to me. I usually see no more than 5 seconds per song transferring via USB 2.0 to my 512mb Shuffle.

The Shuffle is slow to load with my Mac and PC's. Seems iTunes wants to check and recheck the files on it. Anytime there is a change in iTunes it has to update the Shuffle. I try not to put it on the computer when I can and use a car charger instead. Much faster that way.

The shuffle is not slow... if you have under the options or preferencecs under iPod the option "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC for this iPod" checked than it will cause the songs to load (and convert) at a slower rate. I found this out on my Shuffleupagus when I was experimenting a few months back.

I just filled my shuffle on my iBook (AAC files) 129 files @ 20 a minute. just over 6 minutes
If you're doing autofill make sure there are no videos in your queue as it will hang on them until it decides to bump them aside. "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |

ok thanks for the tips. turns out for me it was slow because the convert to 128AAC was on. Now I can copy songs at an average speed of 2 or 3 seconds...
