The sooner you "unload" it the more it will be worth.

I have a 12" Powerbook 867Mhz, and I plan on keeping it for another two years, and I'll get a new one once I'm enrolled in college so I can qualify for a student discount. I expect that most programs will continue to work on PowerPC Macs.

The number of Intel users will not surpass the number of PPC users for quite a while. The existing pre-Intel Mac OS X user base is supposedly well over ten million.

What exactly concerns you about the hardware that other people have? So long as software is still available for PPC users, as it should be for years to come, nothing has changed for those existing users.

I have two PPC Macs. I am not worried about this Intel transition at all. My Macs work as well today as they did two years ago and should continue to work just as well another two years from now, barring any unusual hardware failure.
