The results are in. IBM's BlueGene takes 1st using the PowerPC 440. Virginia Tech's Big mac using 1100 Xserve and 2200 2.3 Ghz G5's are in seventh using the PowerPC 970fx. Overall the results are amazing. The 1, 4, 7,8, and 9 slots use the PowerPC or the POWER4+. It is amazing how 2200 2.3 Ghz G5's beat 2500 Xeon's at 3.06 Ghz!

Well, not really, when last year's System X with 1100 Dual 2.0 XServe's beat that same system.

Nice showing by the IBM based processors overall.

what's more interesting to note is the dollars per Gflop.

that's where the Power chips really shine.

How many 2GHz+ PowerPC 970s are in that list? Maybe this is where they've been going.

I was under the impression that the xserve big mac was faster than the dual 2.0 big mac. Was I wrong?

No, it is faster.

Note, however, that there are brand new contenders (with many more processors) this year and that's why VT's cluster dropped a few notches.
