im trying to delete one file in the trash but it says its in use but all I have open is the finder. help please

open actiivtmonitor if there is anything there that has to do with the file forc quit it our do what kick said

Just to add to the chorus of good advice you have already received (and I'm sure at least one of the above solutions will do the trick - if not all) - keep in mind that if you have a disk image on your desktop and you were using something from that previously, you might have to eject the disk image before being able to empty the trash.
