I heard the funniest thing today. A friend of mine, a Microsoft employee was telling me how he is planning on buying the white apple 20inch screen. I was like would that even work with your windows pc? He was like yeah it works with some vga cards. I was like wait a sec, did you say white apple 20inch screen? he was like yes. I was like dude, there is no white 20inch screen, all there screens are silver. He was like no, the one he saw was white and he was getting it. Then it hit me, turns out he was talking about the 20inch iMac! I told him there is a whole computer built into the screen! He was like completely shocked. He was going to order the "Screen" off amazon this week and he had no clue it was actually a computer lol

1)People are retarded...not just MS employees

2)How happy should he be because he can get an Apple 20" monitor for less than half of what he was going to pay!

Your friend was quick. Relatively. It took my mother two weeks to realize when I ordered my iMac G5 that there was an actual computer built into the "screen."

Did he think the bulbous chin at the bottom was just for decoration?

Maybe he thought it was a counterweight for the way it's positioned on the stand?

haha. when my brother bought my mom her imac g5, my dad was upstairs after a while watching us set it up. i could see that he kept glancing under the desk and behind the "monitor" trying to find out what the rest of the computer looked like. he was pretty shocked when i told him there's no "rest of the computer". hahaha.

That's a great story. I love the iMac g5 design. I personally don't mind the chin at all, since it reminds me of the original iMac.

Actually I thought it would be a pretty hideous distraction from the pictures. I just couldn't fall for Jay Leno on a vesa mount.

Then my friend got a 20 inch G5 iMac. The chin looks much smaller in person. I was sold. Now all I have to do is convince my wallet.

You shouldn't have told him, imagine when he got it home to find its a whole computer and how much better it is than his PC. He would've been converted for life!!

The chin is actually nice. I've used it for stickies (the paper kind), and pictures. You barely notice it at all. I wonder if they could fit a whole computer behind the 30" display without thickening more than an half-inch... :smokey:

I agree...the PR photos somehow make the Leno chin look gigantic and ugly. But everytime I see an iMac G5 in real life (the 17" or 20"), they look just fine. The "chin" doesn't seem to be anywhere near as big or out of proportion as certain photos make it seem.

Odd, but true. And yes, I imagine it does make a great place to put Post-It reminders and/or photos!

It's funny how the pictures make it look like a hideous distraction, but in real life, if a 5" tall white space earnestly distracts you from a high resolution LCD monitor flashing aqua goodness... you've got issues methinks.

What it comes to though, it really doesn't look bad at all, especially if you've owned and used an original iMac.

I don't mind the "chin" at all. It makes it even easier to move & reposition the computer.

OMG...that's so funny.

I would have totally let him buy the "screen," and then let him realize there's an actual computer inside. That would have been quite possibly the best "switch" story ever

I mean, sure, he'd have spent like twice as much as he needed to, but he'd have thanked you for it later...trust me.

I actually had the same experience once I was walking by a reseller. Two dudes where looking at the iMac in the window, and one of them said that it was an awsome looking monitor.

Actually all the people I have been showing my mac to. Has been atracted by it's looks but freightened by the unfamiliar looks of OS X. Guess this kind of people just like shiny stuff, and never asks themselves what they are actually buying.
