I have seen and heard about bits and pieces of the Borat 'schtick' and have been mystified by it. Because of this, I was surprised to see the movie so heavily praised. My sister-in-law, who loved it, described it at length to me yesterday, and I still did not get it. On the other hand, this is the same sister-in-law who watched This is Spinal Tap a few years ago (a movie that had me quite literally falling off my seat laughing when I first watched it, and still makes me laugh now), and asked where the funny parts were supposed to be.

I guess that the point is that everyone's funny bone is tickled in different ways. Based on what I have seen and heard of it, I am not sure that Borat would tickle mine, but I suppose that I should see it, just to find out.

Man, no offense, but there are loads of people on this thread saying "It doesn't sound good" or "Ali G wasn't funny ergo: Borat won't be" etc. but if you haven't seen the film you won't realise how fucking funny it truly is - if there is someone else who has seen this film I think they would agree that it is bloody good;

I suppose that's true Farenheit, but you could say "don't knock it until you see it" about almost any movie. The fact is I can't see many movies due to many other commitments, so I DO have make some choices in advance. So far, based even on the reviews of those who really like it, I have had little inspiration to see this one.

Sacha Baron Cohen is a fuckin' genius. It really is amazing what he can get people to do/say just acting like a foreigner. Borat was a hilarious movie BTW.

I fell out when he asked Jay to hold out a finger then wrapped his hand around Jay's finger and said "my sister is like this"..... the stuff over at the bed with Martha was pretty great, though Jay was throwing Martha under the bus asking about the kinky stuff.... she did pretty damned good hanging with Sasha's improv, hardly blanched when he said "you mean you don't live in a cage?"

OMG was that funny!!!!

One of my favourite bits in the film is with the driving instructor, which I thought was pretty spontaneous:

Borat: There's a woman driving, lets follow her and maybe have some sexytime.
Driving Instructor: No a woman has a right to who she can sleep with.
Borat: WHAAAAT!?!? You joke, HAHAHA.
Driving Instructor: No, thats good huh?
Borat: Thats not good for me...
