I think a side by side comparison is in order here...
First, the TiBook: Now, the TiBook...I mean, Dell: More than just a passing resemblance. So look out Apple, in 3 years Dell will have finally caught up to the AlBooks Edit: Messah is right, the bevel around the screen gives it an iBookish look too... Edit #2: What the heck is the deal with the headphone and line in jacks being right in front? My dad has a Fujitsu (sp?) notebook setup like that and he can't stand it. It's extremely poorly designed. Come waste your time with me Last edited by DMBand0026 : 2004-09-09 at 15:22. Reason: added crap about iBook |

It's uncanny! Seriously, Dell's variant is clunky looking in a not-so-subtle kind of way IMO. Their industrial designers can't hold a candle to anything Apple does, so I wouldn't worry about it. Sony's designers are much more talented. ...into the light of a dark black night. |

Well...from the looks of things everyone has been lookin at Apples...
The Sony Vaio S150. Look, in the sky, it's a Dell, it's a Sony, no! It's a Mac! Ugly too...they try so hard to copy, but fail so miserably. Come waste your time with me |

Does Dell do R&D on design? I doubt it.
The only R&D they do is in an effort to figure out how to build the cheapest box, that's it. "We are reviewing some 9,000 recent UNHCR referrals from Syria. We are receiving roughly a thousand new ones each month, and we expect admissions from Syria to surge in 2015 and beyond." - Anne C. Richard, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration |

You guys should know by now that there is no R&D at Dell. Intel, Toshiba and Nvidia do all the R&D. All Dell does is package it in a box (design team sourced outside) and put it in a styrophoam package. The only thing ever R&D'd by Dell is there logo, and that sucks, too!

Have you guys noticed how many commercials use Apple laptops but have the apple on the back blocked some how? They want to make the commercials look good; now I guess the computer companies want to look good too. Too bad they are too stupid to get it right.

26,000 songs @ a hefty 56kbps. That sounds like trash to me!
Market your product right, morons. I like when Walt Mossberg compared that to the iPod, he said it took him just over 4 hours to convert his 400 some test songs to Sony's standard format (the only format the player can read), and it took him 4 minutes to transfer all those songs to the iPod. Sony sucks Come waste your time with me |

The rational adult in me wants to say "hey, there are only so many angles you can show a laptop from...and swirly blue stuff makes a nice desktop design, so what? There's no copying of Apple here, people...come on!".
But I know better. I'd love to visit an alternate universe...one that didn't have Apple (or, specifically, Apple from 1998 on). Anyone here think computers still wouldn't be beige and blocky? Or that digital music and portable mp3 devices wouldn't be the rage they are? That a computer could ever have come in Crayola colors and be a huge hit? That the whole glossy pill button look wouldn't have been run into the ground by every half-ass website and interface designer in existence? Anyone honestly believe Windows XP would look the way it does had OS X not come along? Seriously? If Mac OS X looked just like OS 9 (and all the improvements/enhancements were strictly under the hood), you know damn good and well Windows XP would still look like Windows 98, ME, 2000, etc. No poochy buttons, no gloss, no shadows, no rounded corners, etc. It's just kinda laughable and humorous at this point. If Apple went to all-black computers tomorrow, by February, ever PC maker on the planet would be selling black towers and accessories. |

You're exactly right Paul. Apple is the computer industry, like it or not.
Now everyone needs to work on their websites. Apple's is head and shoulders above the rest. It's amazing going to www.dell.com and seeing that it's really nothing more than a store. They don't pitch their computers, they just sell them, they don't talk themselves up, they just sell. So sterile and unfriendly. I like a certain level of arrogance in a company, and Apple has that. They're the best and they know it, they aren't afraid to let people know that either. As evidenced by the huge marketing tool that their website is. They have product features, sections on hardware, software, development, their OS, everything. On top of that, it's a store too! Now they just have to figure out how to market somewhere other than their website and they're all set. Come waste your time with me |

I think it's cool when Sony copies Apple's marketing. It shows that Sony believes that Apple is a true genius when it come to market...
Ok, I can't keep a straight face "It's a good thing there's no law against a company having a monopoly of good ideas. Otherwise Apple would be in deep yogurt..." -Apple Press Release |

If that little green eyeroll guy ever got deleted from the smiley arsenal, poor Messiah wouldn't have much left to say.
I don't know if there are statistics to confirm this, but I'd wager a hefty sum that is used more by Messiah than everyone else here combined! |
