I have had My Slow Descent Into Alcoholism by The New Pornographers stuck in my head for days now.

That hook is just too fucking catchy.

Pixies – Head Carrier

I... I just don't know how to feel about this. It's very derivative – of themselves ffs..., so.

I kind've love it? I think? If anyone could be a token Kim, I'd pick Paz, so I'm good with that.

I don't know. The more I listen to it I like it....

So it goes.

I don't post in here all that much, but I thought I would share this. I listen to music about as often as I use a cell phone, which is almost never. But, my old-dude days come roaring back once in a while and I just can't shake them off. Back in "the day" I used to listen to a ton of Queensryche, Metallica, AC/DC, and such. We had this bar we went to where cover bands played, and we sat right in front of the loud speaker (we had our own table). My ears are now suffering for that stupidity, but so it goes.

Anyway, I heard a cover on the radio a few months ago and it just caught me and I asked, "who the hell is that?" I was shocked as hell when I found out it was Disturbed, who are about as gritty a heavy metal band as I have ever listened to. I wandered through some of there stuff and shook them off as being too "metal" for this old metal head. Still, I've come to believe that David Draiman is the best male vocalist on this planet, if only he would turn his talent to other ventures like The Sound of Silence.

I also very much like this awesome track, which is now my new favorite metal piece. I haven't heard anything else of theirs that I like, but these two are just awesome!

Kind've on a small Pixies bender, but I absolutely remember the song that got me hooked: River Euphrates

It's better in context (listen to the full album ffs), but man, this is pretty much as good as it will ever get.

So it goes.

Every once in a while, a song pokes out from under the carpet that I get stuck on, then listen to it over and over and over and … . If you liked it, you should watch the interview with Draiman on the process. Cool stuff.

I first heard it on Radio Paradise. I sort of liked the original, but I've never been much of a Simon and Garfunkel fan. To me, they sound too squeaky and unpolished. And most covers usually get butchered. What Disturbed did, I think, is produce the most beautifully interpreted cover of any song that has ever been covered.

And who knew that Draiman had such an amazing voice? The guy has spent his career singing with marbles in his mouth! His voice is so rich and powerful, I never would have guessed.

TIL the retro art-deco bar used as the set for the video of Jack White's "Would You Fight For My Love?" was shot not far from me—I'd always assumed it was in Nashville.

May have to go check it out.

Pink Floyd – The Wall

I truly believe this will go down as the greatest album of the 20th century. No hyperbole – I challenge y'all.

Floyd is ok, but let's be honest, it's no Fu Manchu.

That album is great. Parts of it remind me of a lo-key Monster Magnet... who I fucking love.

Dopes to Infinity is on my personal Greatest List. Not quite Floyd though...

[edit]: Yes, before you ask, Deadpool's sidekick Negasonic Teenage Warhead was named after a Monster Magnet song.

So it goes.

Childish Gambino - "Awaken, My Love!"

Homage? Parody? I don't care. It's brilliant.

DUDE. I'd never heard of them (so clearly missed the Negasonic reference in the movie...)

I've been rocking that album at work here. Great stuff. Thanks!

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

I haven't heard this album in a long time. It's one of the few you really need to listen from beginning to end.

Came across this song by accident, but I do like it and had it on repeat for a little bit even though I don't understand the words

I can't stop fucking listening to The Mars Volta's Octahedron.

I have literally listened to at least half of this album every single day since the start of spring.

I had a guy share my (rare) powercart one day, and tell me that "man I don't what random player you have here but I had to turn that shit OFF, it was the worst shit I ever heard"

So not only am I still spinning this shit daily, I'm also praying for this fool's death daily. Barely leaves me time for self love and drugs/alcohol!!!

EDIT:

OK, holy fuck. Did a search for this just now and found I posted this album almost 10 years ago. WTF!!! Give this album a whirl, it's slick AF.

Simulation Theory by Muse.
I don't know jack about this band.
But they sound pretty dang cinematic.
Maybe I will investigate them more this fall.

Edit: I'll check out your band too Murbot
