So I saw over in the Speculation & Rumors forum that Intel has a new logo and catchphrase. Anybody want to have a Photoshop contest to create a more appropriate logo for them?

Totally.....

I actually think this..

Intel - "Good chips"

.. is better than their current offering!

Back with something more arty later....

No ideas for any logo or artwork, but a tagline:

"Intel: we won't get stuck at 1.67GHz for a really long time."

FYI: No, handing out Mac ROMs here isn't kosher.

And don't chance it again. I don't like having to clean up posts.

I can't exactly tell you where the ROM is due to Brad's ruling, but I can point you in the direction of a site on setting up Mini vMac.

Sorry Brad.

I don't mean any disrespect, but how is handing out ROMs not kosher? Since it's the hardware that's contained in the ROM, not the software...

Uh, couldn't you just find an old Mac Paint image and draw on top of it with... well, just about any paint program?

Unless you own the hardware, you don't own the ROM. If you need to download a ROM from someone else, chances are good you don't have the hardware. Otherwise, you wouldn't need to download it.

Okay... didn't know that hardware was considered intellectual property. Thanks for the explanation.

Because half the fun is using MacPaint itself.

You're probably too young to remember this , but Nintendo singlehandedly shut down a bunch of web sites in the 90s that were distributing NES and SNES cartridge ROMs. Program data is no less "intellectual property" just because it's stored on a different medium; remember that DVDs and CDs are also ROM (read-only memory).

-Edit: I realized that I didn't add anything of worth to this thread, so I would like to ask: How the hell can I get images off of my Mac Classic? The floppy drive is long since gone... would an ADB to USB adaptor an local talk work with my Classic -> my Powerbook?

Mac Classics didn't have ethernet ports, just Appletalk ports. I think the best strategy would be to either find a working floppy drive, or to get a computer that has both Appletalk and Ethernet ports - most pre-G3 PowerMacs should work for this.

You could always just get them ready made.

I own a Mac+, does that mean it would be legal for me to obtain it's ROM image for intended use with vMac?

It's arguable either way. Back when Nintendo was shutting down sites, there was a convincing legal argument (sadly, the details escape me after all these years) that even if you did own the cartridge that you were not legally entitled to downloading its contents from third-parties.
