Which style do you guys think would look better for an IRL iron pickaxe?

Classic Minecraft style?

Or modified Painterly style?

Many thanks in advance.

To be honest, I think the original style translates better to a physical object...but that might just be me. I've got one of these on my wall, and it looks awesome.

The top one looks more pick-axey.

I've thought from the beginning that the classic pickaxe look was a little wonky. Maybe with the exaggerated arm-swings our MC characters have it might work for mining, but in a practical sense it would be useless. So I vote Painterly style. More-pickaxey and less wtf-ey. There's a sense there that it may work.

Though, if I had my druthers, I may want a block or 3-block of wood at the very upper right corner ala the classic. A pickaxe blade generally has a circular hole in the center and it would look more natural (giant square blocks notwithstanding ).

So it goes.

A pickaxe blade generally has very little curve, which is why the original design always struck me as odd.

IME, this is a classic pickaxe:

I voted for #1 - let me explain why.

If this is for a Halloween costume I think #1 style is much more recognizable.

Otherwise I think #2 is a stronger likeness of a real pickaxe but lacks the ties to Minecraft.

This.

It isn't that the painterly one looks less like an actual pickaxe, its that the minecraft default exaggerated form brings to mind a pickaxe faster than the painterly one.

I do prefer the painterly one in the game...

I'm voting for the classic style over the Painterly. It's more MineCraft like.

Yep, this is pretty much what I have been thinking all along, but I wanted a sanity-check with you guys.

Classic-style IRL it is!

(Though, I might still make a Painterly one just for myself later... or my modified iron sword.)

Classic if it's for a costume.

Glorious.

After allowing it to set for nearly a day, I'll be spraying on a clear lacquer tomorrow night to keep the paint job nice and safe.

I'm very impressed that you actually built it from pixels.

Not entirely necessary now, but the rubber bands were holding the pixels tightly together while the glue was initially setting. They'll be ripped off tomorrow, of course.
