Fellow Minecraftians,
I implore each of you to implement SWiFT.

It's simple, and it can save lives.

Just imagine:
4 squares of blue wool, with 3 blocks of space above, decorated in the materials of your indigenous location. Made safe from the elements by a glass enclosure, these SWIFT booths (also known as Transmat Booths) will provide safe travel for those looking to quickly move around the map, unencumbered by spotty coverage of the Nether. Denied a quick /tp because nobody is in the vicinity of where you need to be? No problem! There's a SWiFT Booth nearby, just type in the coords and you're there!

Those who build SWiFT Booths must avow to maintain the location and integrity of their booths, building around them as needs require, always providing easy routes of egress to visitors.

SWiFT Booths are the wave of the future.

I hope to have a working version up soon, if not sooner.

I do not propose this as a required part of your homes, but as a nice appurtenance that will increase the value of your structure to the overall community.

Think of the children when you vote YES for SWiFT Booths!!!

I yield my time to the next asshole.

The Honorable Senator Captain Drew

Sonofa... I didn't notice that this was in GamingNova and thought maybe someone had finally invented teleporters or warp drive.

Sign me up. We can put the coordinates for our teleporters under our names at our mailboxes in the post office and have the coordinates for the post office at our teleporters (along with maybe the coordinates to the closest nether portal).

I am not convinced this will work all that well. I have a set of stickies on my computer that lists known good coordinates. If I had a desk, it would be physical stickies.

Of course, one or two addresses per mail box is probably sufficient, but would require people to warp into the PO to obtain the coordinates.

Bruce the reason for SWiFT is to avoid somebody coming along and building a wall or a pit at your coords. It's an option, not a replacement or a requirement. I'll still keep a text file full of unsecured coords, but a "safe" arrival point is useful.

No doubt, but some people aren't going to want to participate. I will, but that's because I am a show off, and really want people to appreciate the natural crescent island i found. Its NATURAL.

I knew that, if nothing else, I could appeal to your desire to impress.

and Alci, I think I have a Type-42, my chameleon circuit isn't on the fritz.

However, I do have to dress like a pirate to get it to work.

Tradeoffs, I haz them.

One set of coordinates under your name for your home base. You can walk around and find anyone else's base coordinates. Or we could set up a booth with all of the information listed in directory form: The SWiFT SWiTCHBOARD.

My only issue with this is that it isn't as practical for when you are stuck in a bad spot and need a quick warp. Bruce keeps sticky notes. Not everyone will or would be willing to do that, and memorizing a ton of coordinates isn't the most reasonable idea. I like the thought of having key spots set up for teleporting, but having a home warp like we had with hmod was far more practical. Perhaps once the rail system is set up, we find a simple coordinate (for example: 100, y, 100) to use there and set a spot for it. Simple to remember and close to all sorts of ways home.

Not trying to be a buzzkill by any means, as I like the idea of everyone having safe warps available, but coordinates make this more difficult than it should be. Now, if there were a menu we could access of everyone's warp coords with "/tl list" or something of the sort, that would be epic.

Dellphi and I have started making them. This is an opt-in thing. Don't like it? Don't do it.

Why don't we build a safe warp hub at 100, 100, 100. (or a similar set of easy co-ords if thats on someone's land)

Then erect signs at the hub for any designated safe warps. Use the "hub" for "oh shit" warps, then pick a destination and warp again.

Dare I suggest Yellow/Black wool in a checkboard pattern?

Cheaper than blue wool, plus it looks like a "hazard" identifier.

I guess the color of the wool might merit some discussion. I would think that yellow/black signifies danger. I don't personally mind the colors/material. Dellphi was inspired by Mrs. T to build one out of diamond block!

I just made a default warp that is easy to remember.

/tl 50 50 50

It dumps you in the ocean, but can be expanded and used however anyone would like. Right now it is just a place to go when I light myself on fire.

Oooo, that's a good one. I wonder if there's anything at 1 1 1, 2 2 2, etc.

Some sort of "recovery" platform might be nice for that ocean plop.

0, 63, 0 is by the lighthouse in the water near the original spawn area (there is a sign there on the map). Anywhere with 1 or 2 in the middle will get you into bedrock.

Oh, there is a base around it. No plop.

I tried all of the other ones. This one seemed to work best.

I installed 3 SWiFT pads today. See the maps as I also gave them signs.

So, I just installed a SWiFT pad in my distant city, and I thought we needed to catalog a directory of locations here on the forums so we don't have to scavenge the signs on the map. I've only found three before mine. Am I missing some? edit: Merging into the next few posts so we have one full SWiFT directory post!
