I've been having this thought for a while now, as i often see entries in IMDb that i think are frankly crap and incomplete. And cos I am really getting into wikipedia editing etc. IMDb would be much better and complete if it was in the wiki style- there are lots of incomplete articles for really obscure shows that I know quite a lot about...
etc etc... |

Well... you could always make a wiki for the movie/show.

I know, and I have started using wikipedia more as a reference point for movies etc. but the IMDb format is good and is generally well respected.

Yeah, but also, when it comes to obscure or lesser known shows, people that search the web for information, will search more than just imdb, and will be glad to find any information anywhere really.
Also, I thought that IMDB had a fairly open or easy to get into editing scheme. Like, I thought just about anyone could do it, just that the edits were screened? |

I generally see each as filling a different role than the other, so I like it.

Ironically, well before amazon bought imdb, it was a user submitted list...
