iPod G5 (40GB and 80GB a given in a sleeker design) - I have been a big proponent of the iPod getting video capabilities for ages (this is my most recent take on it) ... but not in the sense that it has a radical form factor alteration. If the iPod is given the capability to show QuickTime or iMovie content, then I would not be surprised. I *will* be surprised if Apple has "sured up" the back end with content providers though. If this is to be the case (content deals already done), then the rumor spreaders have officially been eradicated.
Updated Power Macs and PowerBooks seem inevitable ... even though I thought that would be very un-Apple like to relegate such an update to a "one more thing" announcement. Dual core on either line is special though. (Even though it frustrates me to say it - register my vote for a no G5 PowerBook also.) Pink iPod nano - rumors hint at it ... I'm not convinced, but that is probably enough reason for it to occur. Airport Express with video out - if not now, then obviously some time in the future. Oh yeah, and whatever happened to Asteroid? (What was/is it exactly?) |

I'm not sure what the *big* thing at the event will be, but I think the following will happen:
Updated iPods, slightly smaller form factor, with larger capacities. Plus, the pink iPod Nano. Updated Power Macs, Dual Dual machines. Updates 15 & 17 inch Powerbooks - 7448 G4 Processor, 128MB VRAM standard, Higher Resolution displays (may call them Powerbook HD). Sadly, I think my favorite, the 12-inch Powerbook will not be updated, and it may be phased out completely over a few months. I'm basing this on the ship times. I was going to get an updated 12-inch, but I guess I won't be now... *Powerbook G4 12" - 1.5 GHZ - 1.25GB RAM 80g Hard Drive, Superdrive *iMac Core Duo 1.83 GHZ, 1.5GB RAM *Apple 20-inch Cinema Display (Aluminium) *60g ipod w/Video, Airport Express, .mac sub, iPod shuffle |

It was initially, but somewhere along the line they hooked up with M-Audio to produce it. A good move imo.
[edit:] Here's a news blurb from ars quoting The Mercury News. Whether or not this is *exactly* what Apple had in mind for Asteroid...we'll probably never know. So it goes. Last edited by 709 : 2005-10-11 at 10:04. |

It's a question if the powerbooks are getting an update, too. We might see just better ipods that are able to play little movies. So much infos are rumored about the new ipod and so little infos about new macs. |

I went with the updated Powerbooks, but this poll should include a "new mac product" option -- how about the famous AppleNova $1K Mac Desktop! Or the perennial SetTop Mac?
As an aside, I would enjoy a Mobile Darwin / Mobile X device, since Palm is going to Windows and no Mac friendly mobile OS will exist if it's a Windows Mobile world. I would love to have Spotlight search on a mobile smartphone! I'd even take true multi-tasking, Safari mobile browser, Mobile Mail.app, etc. |

No line at the station? I thought that would be mandatory by now. |

That article that I_love_ipods posted is just basically a bunch of industry analysts arguing about why a video iPod should or shouldn't happen. No big deal IMO. Come waste your time with me |

I don't think it's any of the above.
I am still betting on a device that replaces your cable box and allows for streaming, recording, etc. Something you could also plug your iPod into or extend your airport connection. Stream music, video. Hook up to your speakers. Record TV. Export files. Browse the internet. Widgets aimed at all of it. A true digital hub. Or at least a better shot at the beginnings of one. |
