There will probably be something in March...

Maybe something to unveil those iPod-oriented things that were supposedly cut from the MWSF keynote at the last minute. New shuffle? Boombox thing? New video content announcements? iTunes 7?

Apple can update products without having a special event, you know.

They didn't have a special event when they updated the iPod mini early last year, for instance.

but a possible media center? something COMPLETELY new and different? that needs a special event.

I'm personally a bit perplexed by the shuffle remaining. I thought for sure it was due to be updated. I *know* that Apple wants to have plenty of iPods available upon announcement, so I'm sure it was the thing that was cut from MWSF. It's really only a matter of time before an update shuffle comes out. And you know, with all the hype around the iPod, there WILL be an event for its announcement. (Unlike the mini update, the shuffle will be a redesign.)

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

No kidding. I really hope that's not directed at me.

But if it's something completely new, different and novel...

They had several of them in 2005 for things they obviously felt deserved some special attention/spotlight.

No, I wouldn't expect them to hold a special event to announce new iPod socks or a QuickTime update...and I don't think I, or anyone else, suggested anything like that.

Of course it would be for something new and fairly significant!

It wasn't directed at you, 'scates. I know you know better.

But after the flurry of special events late last year, some people seem to have forgotten that Apple can update products - and even introduce new ones - without a special event.

For something significant, like a media center, we'd see a new special event, of course.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

How can you say that? You obviously have no idea of the importance the iPod socks have for Apple's bottom line:

This probably won't count, but there was the Xserve..kinda sorta. I recall seeing a picture of just a small part of the front grill, I think, at the end of a keynote after Jobs made some vague remark about a future product (i.e., the Xserve).

scates: nah, a quick (and rather shoddy) Photoshop job, using a picture chucker posted in another thread a while ago.

I thought the German gave it an air of authenticity

I've heard the "special event" will take place on Feb 28th.

I have not heard "what" this special event will be. Only that it is happening.

Actually, it is interesting just what Apple will need to do to Airport if they intend to bring wireless video streaming products to market.

Some of the other manufacturers' pre-N MIMO products do have several times faster throughput than the current standard "G" systems. Anyway, it is something to look for in the future.

Wireless video streams well with current technology (such as CyTV ) - there is plenty Apple can do without fundamentally upgrading AirPort Extreme/Express.

Hey, this arrived in my inbox today (click for Flickr page)...

I wonder if it's real?

Edit: my friend also received this one. Looks like Apple is personalizing them for each invitee.

Edit 2: Looks like some aren't taking this event seriously. I'll have the last laugh on the 22nd...

You ask me for a hamburger.

Man, if I see one more of these things today I am going to snap!

People should go read a book or go outside instead of making this stuff all day.
