That's an interesting thought. It's a shame that the video iPod no longer accepts firewire, otherwise it'd be a completely viable option.

I think isight will eventually connect through the USB port. But I def. don´t see Apple releasing something that would make you be able to connect the two. Maybe, maaaaaaaybe releasing an iSight specifically for the iPod. But even that is far-fetched.

I don't think Apple will make the iSight connect via USB, especially since both new Intel Macs come with iSight built-in. I'm starting to see a trend.. We'll just have to see if they put them in the Intel iBooks.

Firewire is the way to go with webcams. I love my iSight

Deal with it.

The iSight in the G5 iMacs (and probably Intel iMacs as well) is USB, though...

How about this...

An iPod with built-in WiFi and iSight camera for on-the-go iChat video calls to your contacts.

yeah, I wonder what it would take to handle two way h.264 video chat with full duplex sound...

Oh well. I'd rather not look at most of the people I talk to on the phone.

Great, another video phone! Nobody's thought of that before! They're all the craze in Europe now that they have UMTS and stuff ...

Nobody wants a video phone. When they switched the switchboards in Europe over to digital in the early 80s, they demoed video phones. They did that again when they introduced ISDN. With UMTS, you'd have your video phone with you all the time. But nobody cares. Most of the time you just want to talk to people. And when you want to see the other person, you usually want to do that in private. And you certainly don't want to have to hold that bloody thing in front of you all the time so the other person can see you.

Anyway, I don't believe it. Just slapping more technology onto something doesn't make it better. The failure of UMTS is the best proof for that.

It's a microphone.

edit: But, I just realized there's also a microphone by the iSight lens. So, oopsie, maybe it's an external speaker.

Even if it didn't have WiFi for built in video iChats, it does look like a reasonable solution to the original proposal of being able to record video on your iPod - especially given how Apple has integrated the iSight into the MBP and iMac.

Then again, this also blurs the line of the iPod handling photo/video recorder duties ... and the purists will begin to complain that "it's all about the music".
