A giant glass entry to a below ground facility complete with circular stairway and cylindrical elevator? Does this sound familiar to anybody else?

Doesn't ring any bells to me but maybe it's a hint of the future identity design that we'll see in Apple's next gen hardware and software - Aluminium and glass

This thread was begging for an original picture... so I made one.

Dammit, and I was so proud of my little graphic.

That's going to look sweet though. I spent about half an hour in that very spot last December (waiting for family shopping in toy store).

You ask me for a hamburger.

According to the AI article, the cube is still under construction. The picture in AtomicBB's post is an artist's rendition of the final product.

Eugene's post sounds like a reference to Willy Wonka's elevator.

The cylinder in the middle of the staircase is a hydraulic open-air elevator.

Note to Eugene: We do not know the contents of your brain, so at least attempt to share context next time....

But now you've given us the context, it does sound remarkably Louvre-like. Don't worry. That store is in the US, and 99% of the customers won't have ever been there!

This thread was very confusing at first. Not only did I not know the contents of Eugene's brain, I thought SledgeHammer and Coheebuzz had mastered time travel.

Gotta love British summer/winter time. No-one else does this, right...? Puts their clocks forward and back by an hour twice a year?

I sort of figured there weren't that many circular stairway/elevator combinations in subterranean locations with glass polyhedrons covering them...

Er... we do it in the US, too. Well, most of the US does, at least. All but the Chicagoland area of Indiana does NOT, for example (since Illinois does "spring forward" and "fall back", the commuters to Chicago that live in Indiana insists on following the time change while the rest of the state does not).

Didn't we have a thread about Steve Jobs possibly being Willy Wonka?

http://forums.applenova.com/showthre...=Will y+Wonka
http://forums.applenova.com/showthre...ht=Willy+Wonka

I have found more evidence.

Weee, I'm gonna start singing

"Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka - arrh fire, it burns!"

That movie was just so funny

Yep, we in Holland do it too. I think most of Europe, and the US, and probably Canada too.

Anyone notice the man in the foreground of these two pictures over the trashcan?

He's seeing his lunch for the second time....

And as for the Glass Cube....when I saw the thread I thought that it was about an idea to bring back the Cube, with a glass case. Not a bad idea actually...you'd be able to see all the wheels spinning, the glow plugs glowing, and the little rodents running around.

Anyway, i was dumbstruck when i first went to the Louvre.

FYI (since I live in Indianapolis), this is the last year that's true. The entire state will follow it next year. There was a horribly drawn out debate about it in the statehouse this year, but they finally voted to have everyone observe DST next year.

Good to hear! I always thought having two different times in the same state must have been needlessly confusing.

Wait... isn't there also an issue with the Gary area being in the Central Time Zone while the rest of the state is Eastern, or is that some kind of false recall my brain is doing right now? How will that be rectified - making the whole state Eastern Time and observing DST, or the other way around (all Central Time and observing DST)?

More news about the Cube!
(emphasis mine)
Quote:
The long-awaited deal for Apple’s sprawling subterranean store in the GM building was recently finalized—but only after landlord Harry Macklowe promised Steve Jobs he could take his big $9 million glass cube with him at the end of the lease. Techno aesthete Jobs personally designed the 32-foot-by-32-foot box that will mark the store’s entrance on the Fifth Avenue plaza (formerly home to a T.G.I.Friday’s). “Steve Jobs felt that he created the cube so he owned it,” says Apple broker Robert Futterman, noting that Macklowe wanted it to stay put. “At the eleventh hour, that was the biggest issue.” Macklowe had aggressively wooed Jobs, flying out to California twice and offering well below market rent of $1,000 per square foot for the 24,000-square-foot store set to open in the spring. At the end of the twenty-year lease, Jobs must replace the cube with a comparable structure before hauling it off. Apple didn’t return calls, and Macklowe declined to comment.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that's really weird? It would be pretty cool to have a giant 32x32 glass cube as a lawn ornament, though.

Is that rent monthly or yearly? It looks like, if my math is right, that the rent will be $24,000,000! Even if it's monthly, we're talking 2 million! Jeez that's pricey...

I had no idea Apple was opening a store on 5th Avenue. That's cool. That building is right across the street from the Plaza.
