Weird...

Dead body found at Apple's Infinite Loop HQ.

And from AppleInsider.

Quote:
There is no word on exactly where or when the body was discovered, according to NBC Bay Area, though some reports say the person was found in a conference room. The investigation is being run by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

A crew from the Santa Clara County Fire Department β€” which includes emergency medical services β€” was reportedly dispatched to the campus, but were "waved off." It's not clear who made that call.
"Waved off"? Who could do that? Nobody from Apple, right? If I called 911 and had a firetruck and ambulance show up, I couldn't stand out in my driveway and wave them off and make them not proceed with their call/entry, could I? Or maybe "waved off" as in "it's too late, there's no life-saving procedures you can try here"?

The NBC report's closing line caught my eye:

Quote:
Just yesterday, Apple announced its first revenue drop since 2003, sending Apple stock price down more than seven percent in extended trading.
Surely some high-level exec type didn't take such a thing too hard/personally and do the unthinkable. That's really hard to imagine.

I guess people die from natural causes at their workplace all the time (especially if you're spending 12-18 hours a day there, as some at Apple probably do). The odds just go up that you're going to be there vs. your own house. Just don't recall such a story before.

UPDATE: Just saw this at TMZ (I know, I know...but they do have sources and much of what they run on these sorts of things turns out to be the case, hours/days before officially confirmed by "legit sources"). I'm including it here simply for the sake of discussion (and in light of what I said directly above).

Quote:
Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies are on the campus in Cupertino, CA. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the call came in to dispatch at 8:38 AM as a "possible suicide."

According to the sheriff's dispatch call there was a female employee involved in an argument on the campus, and had sustained a head wound -- possibly from a gun -- before Apple security escorted her out of the building.

As deputies were responding, they were unclear if there were multiple people involved. One portion of the dispatch exchange describes a body being found in a conference room, and that person had a gun.

It's increasingly looking like there were 2 people involved since the fatality was reportedly an Hispanic male ... and we know the person with the head wound was a woman.

Good grief, what's going on? Two people involved? One shot (but survives) by another (who kills himself)? If there's a gun involved, it's weird to think an outfit like Apple wouldn't have strict protocols and detectors, being so high-profile and all. I couldn't get a gun into my local public library.

It's not on CNN or the larger outlets yet, but it seems to be in Bay Area newspapers/sites and a few tech-oriented sites. AppleInsider was the first place I saw it, then Googled for others.

UPDATE (again): I saw this story at AppleInsider the other day, about Apple laying off contract recruiters (about 100 positions). I wonder if there's something involved with that angle...someone was being let go and flipped out during his exit interview or something like that?

The above article is kinda sad because it makes it sound like Apple has shot its wad and just isn't the innovation/"gotta be here to change the world!" powerhouse it once was.

While I didn't hear the earning call, the reports from it were bleak about this past quarter and iPhone 6s. Innovation (the lack of really) was mentioned a few time by Bloomberg and other such financial outlets. It's kinda sad, but I sure do hope Apple doesn't turn to another name on the store shelf.

"Audio from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's dispatch recorded at 8:38 a.m. indicates that a female employee on the Apple campus was escorted out of a building by security Wednesday morning, and had sustained an injury to the head, possibly from a gun. Two minutes later the dispatcher talks about a dead body found in one of the conference rooms, with a gun nearby. How the woman is related to the man's death is not clear."
