Just broke in (CNN.com and others just now getting flashes up).

News conference at 5:00pm ET.

I fear the worst...skidding off runway, into ravine and burst into flames. Trucks just NOW (within 2 minutes ago or so) got to it.

All the talk on the radio news (only access I have at work) is that it was "totally engulfed".

Typical Canuck TV interviewers... one of the channels cut in to the Canadian networks talking to surviving passengers and the host's final line was "Glad you made it out OK, and Welcome to Canada".

Remarkable.

Glad everybody's OK.

I gotta say, surviving a plane crash would make for one of the world's best stories, but if it were me, I could never fly again.

Oh, I would. I'd figure - much like surviving a shark attack or lightning strike - that I've cashed in my "plane crash" chip, and would probably be okay the rest of my years flying.

"Surely this couldn't happen to me again...".

I'd fly every week.

Now that I know it's not serious...

<Insert obligatory joke about Canadians and how I didn't know they had jets>

Glad everyone is okay. I smell a whole bunch of lawsuits coming on...oh wait, it didn't happen in the US, people outside this country aren't lawsuit happy.

Really though, that's a miracle that no one was killed. Really remarkable, it's the worst kind of news turned into the best kind of news.

I was flying into Winnipeg a few years ago, with a plane full of nuns. The wheels were seconds from touching down, when suddenly we roared back up and banked hard right. About a minute later, the captain came on the intercom and in an amused voice said something about a commuter plane cutting in front of us. I took this as a sign that I would never die in a plane crash. (I'm still waiting for a message about car travel.)

Still, I think I'll pay more attention when the flight attendants make their obligatory speech at the beginning of the flight. I'm glad all those people survived.

Prayers were answered. That was amazing that all survived. The crew deserve a lot of credit.
