Only this one might actually work. Guy was initially planning on using his tech. to replace relatively dangerous welding gasses. After working on that for a while he figured he'd try his hand using it to power a car. Interesting idea if it would work, but I'd be interested to see what exactly the energy conversion was with this setup. Google is your frenemy. Wow, this looks like it has some real potential! It doesn't involve compressed gasses and looks like the process is fairly straight-forward.
I wouldn't mind driving to school on a glass of water. |

Interesting.
It seems to be targeted thus far towards supplementing gasoline, rather than replacing it. http://hytechapps.com/index.html |

So, uh... doesn't it take lots of power to electrolyze water into its gaseous components? Where does that energy come from?
Sure, you could use the gas to run an engine, but the electricity to decompose water into the gas has to come from somewhere... this is in effect an electric car. From the web site FFL linked to... Quote:

Because you'd also have to get that electricity somewhere else, too.
Interesting thing about hydrogen is that you can go backwards -- combine hydrogen & water -- and produce electricity. The benefit of this guy's fuel is that it would provide performance similar to gasoline engines, and can apparently be retrofitted to existing engines. It would help wean the current system off of gasoline, being an interim step between gasoline and straight-up hydrogen-electric systems. And, plus -- it's cheap enough that this guy was able to do it on his own. |

Wow. I wonder if you run out of water if you can pee in it and keep going?

My bullshit sensor is flying off scale...
It is simply an oxygen/hydrogen gas mixture -- there isn't anything new about it. NOTHING. |

Well, the new part is getting a car to run on/with it, eh? Still, 'bout time we stop using gas.... we run out, world goes mad because cars aren't moving, and then we go madder because there's no gas for everything else it was used for excluding cars. Get rid of busses, trucks, Hummers, and anything made before 2000 and we're good to go.... or drive on water. |
