Quick (stupid) question: Will my Intel iMac setup discs install 10.4 on a g4 mini I bought - or do I need a g4 version of OS X 10.4 (or wait for 10.5, but same question)
My gut is no, but thought I would check with you guys |

No, client versions of Mac OS X aren't fully universal yet. (Mac OS X Server is, but Mac OS X won't be until 10.5.)

PPC or Intel - system restore discs included with hardware are generally coded to ONLY install on the hardware they were bundled with.
Besides that issue, chucker is of course correct - there is currently no OS X installer set that will work on both Intel and PPC. So basically, there are two strikes against your plan. You would need a retail version of 10.4 (or one bundled with a G4 Mini) to install 10.4 on the G4 mini. If the Mini's restore discs are missing, you can purchase replacements from AppleCare by giving them the machine's serial number. |
